This section presents a wide range of films by directors from all over the world. Philippe Lesage returns to Jeonju IFF with Genesis, a film that closely follows the story of teenagers dreaming of changes. Different generations undergoing changes account for the largest part of this year’s World Cinemascape. The realities faced by those in Speak Low ― just before marriage ― and Moonless Dawn are far from kind. The films Stitches, A Family Submerged, The River and Rosie tell heartrending stories of unhappy families.
The Gold-Laden Sheep & the Sacred Mountain reveals the greed of human and Ray & Liz is a powerful exploration of the dark realities faced by those living in the city’s outskirts. Maiden, a documentary about a women’s yacht race, and Commander Arian: A Story of Women, War & Freedom, a documental look at women on the front line of the Syrian war, are both testimonies of the change in lives of women captured by camera. If Beale Street Could Talk by Barry Jenkins recounts the tragic fate of a young black couple through a cinematic embodiment of emotional power.
The short films selected for this year’s World Cinemascape are more fascinating and sophisticated than ever. Along with brilliant imagination and humour, they deliver the maturity of the world of short films today.
