1,748 submissions total, 242 films (16%) increase over last year
Rise of 52% entries for the International Competition proves Jeonju IFF as a renowned festival
The Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF, Festival Director LEE Joon-dong) received 1,748 submissions for the competition sections of this year’s 21st edition. This number includes 1,213 Korean films and 535 foreign movies, which is an increase of 242 submissions or 16% over last year.
Closed on January 20, 2020, its International Competition section received 535 submissions, a rise of 52% from a year earlier. This year, the section has 184 films more than the last year’s 351 entries. It confirmed Jeonju IFF’s global position. In terms of genre, there are 267 narrative films, 209 documentary films, 10 animated films and 49 experimental films from 83 countries.
In addition, the 21st edition received 126 films for the Korean Competition, 1,040 films for the Korean Competition for Shorts and 24 films from local residents, while acquiring passionate responses.
Entries will be decided to screen through a deliberate evaluation by the festival’s programmers and preliminary jury members. Selected films will be shown during the festival, and the final winners will be given trophies and cash prizes.
