Review
Brazil is known as the country of soccer, but a law was set in 1941 that legally forbade women to practice the sport because it was “too violent” and “not adequate to their nature.” Before the law was put in place, there were at least 15 women’s teams, and the players were mostly made up of the low-income class and black people. Women’s soccer became legal again only 40 years later, and the very first national team was born in 1988. This film tells the story of the past and the present of the former players of Brazil’s very first women’s national soccer team who are now nearing their 60s. In the 1980s and 90s, these players visited China along with many places around the globe to work hard in their country’s honor, but they were not guaranteed of any wealth or fame in return. Even now, Marilza whose nickname is Little Pelé, still pulls a burger cart around to make ends meet. But what still connects these members close together as they coach youth teams or watch the A match together is their endless love for soccer. (CHUN Jinsu)

Graduated in Social Communication at PUC-SP, she studied Documentary at Escuela Internacional de Cine y Tv in Cuba. Her most recent film is the documentary A Crime Amongst Us (2020), about sexual violence against children and adolescents.
