Again, Towards Democracy

Since December 3, 2024, democracy in South Korea has been facing a crisis, with chaos and aftermath that remain uncertain. In response, the 26th JEONJU International Film Festival presents a special section titled Again, Towards Democracy featuring six documentaries that explore the political turmoil across the world—some past and some ongoing situations similar to the challenges we face today.

Every year, many Asian workers arrive in South Korea with dreams of prosperity, only to face exploitation in what is known as the 'City of Machines.' This documentary follows three Nepali workers as they endure harsh realities while reclaiming their dignity through poetry.

Horoomon

Horoomon: the Japanese word for grilled offal, derived from "something to be thrown away." There were people who picked up discarded animal intestines and ate them—Koreans who moved to Japan during the Japanese colonial era. The Japanese looked down on them for grilling and eating offal, but today, it has become a beloved dish for all. For Zainichi Koreans who have lived in Japan, horomon carries the sorrows and history of their lives.
