💬This year's winners? Scenes from the 24th JEONJU IFF Awards Ceremony

On May 3(Wed), the 24th JEONJU IFF Awards Ceremony was held at the Jeonbuk National University Cultural Center. An exciting moment to meet this year's winners! The ceremony was held after many filmmakers from worldwide who participated in this year's festival were seated. A total of 20 winners have been selected in the International Competition-Korean Competition-Korean Competition for Shorts section. Here are the winners - congratulations to all!

💬 Words! Words! Words! in the 24th JEONJU IFF Award Ceremony

When the directors were called up to accept the award, their voices were shaky, as if they hadn't expected it. Some directors lightened the mood in the gall with unexpected acceptance speeches, while others brought up issues we needed to consider. We want to share our impressions of the awards we received at the event. We hope that the atmosphere of the 24th JEONJU IFF Award Ceremony will reach everyone who read this newsletter!

As an actor, it's a dream to have your work screened at a film festival. I am grateful. I want to share this award with my co-actors, LEEM Chaeyoung and Seonghwan. The beautiful lines we wrote while analyzing the script and the tiki-taka chemistry with the other actors made our movie.

JEONJU IFF gave me a big award three years ago. So I was surprised to receive an award today. I congratulate (others on their awards), and I'm so happy whenever I see them getting awards.

It takes work to turn someone into a movie. I was always grateful to them (for being a part of the movie). I thought a lot about conversing with them rather than making a movie.

Here's a fun fact. Some of the winners on stage at this year's JEONJU IFF Awards had unusual dreams!🤔💭 Several directors who won awards in the Korean and International Competition sections shared their dreams with us last night. We'll include them in the newsletter. Who knows, you'll be dreaming a similar dream, and something good will happen!🌈

🎬 Wins 2 trophies at JEONJU IFF! Flowers of mold(Director SHIM Hye-jung)

Director SHIM Hye-jung came to JEONJU IFF with her film Flowers of mold and garnered two awards, Watcha's Pick: Feature and CGV Award. After accepting her award in the Watcha's Pick: Feature category, director SHIM Hye-jung shared her delightful acceptance speech. "Before I came to JEONJU IFF, I had a dream that I was pregnant, and I thought it was a good dream, so I didn't tell anyone until now."

Shortly after that, it was time for the CGV Award! Director SHIM Hye-jung, once again announced as the winner, took the stage and shared a laugh, adding, "I think the children I conceived in my dream were twins."👶

🎬 The 24th JEONJU IFF International Competition Grand Prize There is a Stone (Director OTA Tatsunari)

Is it through the superstition that when you have a good dream, you shouldn't share it with anyone for it to be effective? Here's another director who believes that "dreams come true in reverse."

OTA Tatsunari, the director of There is a Stone, won the Grand Prize at the 24th JEONJU IFF International Competition Section! "I had a horrible dream this morning," he said as he took the stage to accept his award. "I dreamed that my family kicked me out, and when I heard that the previous award winner had dreamed that she was pregnant, I thought, 'I'm not going to garner this award,'" he said.

🎬 The 24th JEONJU IFF Korean Competition Grand Prize From You (Director SHIN Dongmin)

Director SHIN Dongmin, the winner of the Grand Prize in the Korean Competition section, received some unusual dream energy last night! We got some behind-the-scenes story from the after-party.😎 Director SHIN Dongmin's real-life mother, KIM Hyejeong, appears as his mother in the film From You. Director SHIN Dongmin's award-winning dream was predicted by his mother, who worked with him on the movie. A few days ago, SHIN Dongmin's mother dreamed that a giant snake wrapped around the director and the entire cast! I googled the translation of the "big snake dream" and found that it's a dream of great fortune.🐍

SHIN Dongmin, director of From You, garnered the Grand Prize with an award commentary that said, "Not only does it fit this year's JEONJU IFF catchphrase of 'Beyond the Frame' with the good fortune of his mother, but it also shows the 'cinematic thing' that we have lost in the age of 1.25x!" We can't wait to see what's next step for director SHIN Dongmin, whose debut feature Mom's Song and sophomore directorial effort From You both won the JEONJU IFF Korean Competition Grand Prize. Congratulations to the director on his award!
