At the age of 15, she made her acting debut in A Petal, directed by Jang Sun-woo, and was recognized as a child acting prodigy. At 20, she transitioned to singing and became a pioneer of techno music, establishing herself as one of Asia's leading Hallyu stars for 15 years. At 30, encouraged by director Park Chan-wook, she returned to acting and won the Golden Bear Berlinale 2011 for NIGHT FISHING. She continued her career with roles in The Admiral: Roaring Currents(2014), Alice In Earnestland, Peninsula (2020), Decision to Leave (2022), and Parasyte: The Grey (2024) and others. Since her days as a singer, she has been developing her creative abilities by directing stages and producing music, and in 2024, she entered the Graduate School of Film at Chung-Ang University and began a new challenge as a director with her first directorial film, Toe-Tapping Tunes. addition to her work in film and music, she is a best-selling cookbook author, further showcasing her versatility as a multi-artist and earning continued admiration from the public.
