Overview

One day, just before I was about to leave the orphanage, my lifesaver came to me, claiming to be terminally ill. She demanded my entire fortune—$4000 in settlement support—in exchange for my life. "Are you really my lifesaver, or are you a fraud?" An adventure drama that follows the unraveling of a twisted chain of fate.

Review

Combining quasi-family drama with a story of female solidarity, SAVE begins with a meeting between Sejeong, an unworldly girl who has grown up in an orphanage, and Eunsuk, a middle-aged woman who has seen everything. Eunsuk claims herself to be Sejeong’s "benefactor," insisting that the girl lend her the five million won she received to establish herself after leaving the orphanage so that the older woman can undergo an operation. The problem is that Sejeong was defrauded after paying the money as a deposit on an apartment. The story that unfolds can be divided into three chapters, the first of which shows Eunsuk reclaiming Sejeong’s money. Eunsuk asserts that she can get the money back, and she succeeds through the use of various tactics. The second chapter focuses on what happens when Eunsuk disappears with the five million won. SAVE is a comic drama that takes on a lively rhythm as it shows the ensuing pursuit—but it would not work without the warmth of the final chapter. As a story of solidarity by two women brought together by fate rather than blood, this is a movie that leaves the viewer reflecting on the true meaning of "family." It also boasts exceptional interplay between actors Kim Pureum—a former child actor who also appeared on the musical audition program Stars Awakening—and veteran Song Seonmi. (MOON Seok)
