Review

"The beauty of youth is a legend," wrote poet Noriko Ibaragi. When we know so little about both the world and ourselves, the loves of our inexperienced youth become more intense, their sorrow heavier to bear. From its opening moments, Summer's Camera radiates all the charm and innocence we expect from coming-of-age stories, stirring that exhilarating feeling that makes you want to sing, "The sky is open above us, and you're right here beside me." Despite the frustrating heat, summer's energy nourishes everything around us. Similarly, our protagonist Summer captures precious moments with her camera while learning to accept her family secrets and love. In time, the loves, the heartaches, and the friendship might exist only as memories when the season changes, but the excitement and impressions carved into her heart will last for a long time. This film beautifully conveys a genuine appreciation for the warm souls who help us navigate a chapter in our lives. (Sung MOON)
