In a small army unit, far from the outside world, there is a young soldier hiding a secret he doesn't want to share. Every time he stands guard during the night watch, he sees smoke rising from the forest. However, for some reason, it seems no one else can see the smoke.

Kim Heesu, a private first class, struggles not only with the hardships of army life but also with his father's issues. When life becomes so stressful that even leaving for vacation feels burdensome, the problems he tried to ignore begin to overwhelm him. There are hints that much is going on around him, yet not everything is explicitly explained. Instead, fleeting bits of information and the protagonist's awkward, rigid expression powerfully convey the suffocating atmosphere. Ultimately, the heavy smoke in the film makes even the audience feel uneasy. (KIM Bonyeon | Programmer of Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema, Film Critic)
