This documentary shares the life of François Truffaut, one of the most beloved French directors of the 20th century. While preparing for the work, director David Teboul was granted permission to use the director's letters and other archival materials by his daughters, Laura and Eva. But what most captured Teboul's attention were materials that had never been made public before: the director's final autobiographical accounts. Truffaut had always wanted to write an autobiography but kept putting it off. A few months before his death, he related his autobiography to Claude de Givray, who had been a friend since childhood. This documentary is based on those unfinished interviews. The stories it shares are sure to excite cinephiles, ranging from the scarring childhood experiences the director sought to conceal to the backstories of his 21 films, his relationships with film world colleagues, and his never-before-seen personal footage.
