Overview

Dae-sik comes to Turkey on a business trip with his team leader, while Jeong-wha visits the country for a vacation with her husband. Review

Güle-Güle, the latest film from director Ko Bong-soo-a familiar presence at the JEONJU IFF-stands out for being shot entirely abroad. The love story is set in Turkey's famed tourist destination, Cappadocia, where Dae-sik and Jeong-wha, former lovers who parted ways long ago, cross paths once again. But this is no simple reunion. Their unexpected encounter compels Dae-sik to reflect on his life, marked by years of avoidance and passivity, while giving Jeong-wha the chance to finally bring closure to their dragged-out relationship. As in many of director Ko Bong-soo's films, the characters are good-natured, and the love story develops with effortless humor. Set during a group tour, the film features plenty of beautiful sights. Moreover, actor Lee Hee-jun delivers an outstanding performance, having previously worked with the director on the film The Rain Comes Soon (2021), which was screened at the 22nd JEONJU IFF. Güle-Güle was also invited for screening at the San Diego Asian Film Festival last November. The title comes from a common farewell expression in Turkish. (MOON Seok)
