One of the residents of the small village of Karkkila, Finland, is none other than Aki Kaurismaki, a renowned filmmaker who has produced a number of masterpieces and won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. However, the true protagonists of this documentary are the villagers—who are also Kaurimaski’s friends. (Jim Jarmusch also makes an appearance.) With the help of the famous director, the villagers plan to open a film theater in the middle of a beautiful forest. Starting from small anecdotes and the individuals forming the community, this film observes the life of the village and shows how, as the residents themselves build the theater, the space transforms into a beloved community hub.
