Review

One day, filmmaker Paloma Zapata came across a black-and-white video of a flamenco dancer, and it shocked her. The dancer’s charismatic movements and her sad but mysterious eyes were enough to make Zapata remember the name of Antonia Singla. Starting with this video from the 1960s when Singla was 16 or 17, Zapata decided to dissect this mystic flamenco dancer. What she found out to her shock was that just a week after Singla was born at a gypsy town near Barcelona, she suffered from hearing impairment. Although she couldn’t hear music, Singla started to dance by feeling the vibrations, and soon, she was famous. After appearing in a few movies, she was recognized as one of German’s best dancers. However, she disappeared without a trace when she turned 30, and there lies a tragic story behind it. What happened to Singla? 50 years later, the camera sets off in search of the dancer.
