A delightful family comedy set somewhere in rural India in 2001, Lost Ladies drew attention as it was produced by Indian famous actor and director Aamir Khan. On the night when Jaya and Phool became brides, they boarded the same train with their husbands and headed to their respective in-laws' with their faces covered with red wedding veils. Phool's husband Deepak accidentally wakes Jaya up on a crowded train in the middle of the night and takes her to his village, only to realize his mistake when he gets home. On the other hand, Jaya's husband gets off the train with Phool but realizes that something is off soon. So he leaves her at the train station and disappears. Now the two women must go on a long journey to find their place. It’s also interesting to compare their characters: Jaya is a wise modern Indian woman who strives for self-realization and consoles Deepak as he searches for his bride as well as his distressed family, and Phool is a shy woman who does not give up hope for a happy married life.
