Review
Mademoiselle Kenopsia by Denis Côté, the filmmaker who stands out for his uniquely distinctive style in contemporary Canadian cinema, paints the story of a mysterious woman who resides in an enigmatic space where time seems to flow differently from the rest of the world. The building that must have bustled with activity at one point in time now sits empty for unknown reasons, and only one woman remains. Amid silence, the woman hears occasional eerie sounds from unidentifiable sources and encounters other people, and in these occasions her presence seems to grow even more peculiar. Like a question someone once asked: if a tree falls in a deserted forest, does the sound of the tree falling exist? If no one witnessed an event, how can one prove what occurred? And, how is a life unseen by anyone perceived? (Sung MOON)
