What's the first thing that comes to mind when considering JEONJU IFF? For many of you, I'm sure it's the midst of spring, wandering Film Street, waiting for your screening time, and ending the day with some of the best restaurants around the city. Yesterday was unusually rainy all day. JEONJU IFF with rain, it was quite a refreshing scene!☔ The important thing is to be unbreakable(by weather) heart(for the film)! The Dardenne Brothers kicked off the 24th JEONJU IFF with a fiery start! Yesterday, the Directors wrapped up their time at JEONJU IFF with a GV after the 10 am screening of Tori and Lokita. The directors met with audiences at various locations at JEONJU IFF and shared their memorable sayings..!🤭 We will summarize all the quotes in our newsletter.

💬 The Dardenne Brothers, Any advice for aspiring Korean filmmakers?
|
|
The biggest event of the Dardenne Brothers' first day was the opening ceremony of the 24th JEONJU IFF. The Dardenne brothers were the last guests to walk the red carpet and received a warm reception. On stage at the opening ceremony, the directors had a great moment.
When JEONJU IFF programmer Chun Jinsu asked to give "one piece of advice to aspiring Korean filmmakers," director Luc Dardenne said, "Don't try to be famous, but think about the story you want to tell." He left us with a meaningful word.
Director Jean-Pierre Dardenne then added a piece of advice emphasizing the power of solidarity among filmmakers: "Rather than trying to work alone, I think it's better to work with friends, friends of friends so that you'll find out what truth we're looking for in them."

The Dardenne Brothers started their first day at JEONJU IFF with a press conference for their opening film. "We're so happy and grateful to be invited to Korea, a country we've only known through movies," they said, adding that they came to Jeonju to learn about Korea in person.
The press conference of the opening film was also the first time the Dardenne brothers spoke about their new film, Tori and Lokita, which opened the JEONJU IFF. Director Jean-Pierre Dardenne shared his intentions for the film: "We wanted to show how far the friendship of two immigrant children can go.""I want everyone who watches Tori and Lokita to feel like they are friends with Tori and Lokita," said director Luc Dardenne.

The Tori and Lokita + Masterclass: The Dardenne Brothers, moderated by Yoon Ga-eun, gave us a glimpse into the world of the Dardenne Brothers! We got a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Tori and Lokita, as well as various stories about the directors' years of experience.
We also discovered something in common with the Dardenne brothers 👀! Feeling stagnant in certain parts of a long work was the same as the directors!
"There are moments in the process when we say, "Enough!"," says director Jean-Pierre Dardenne. There are moments when we revise the script several times and say, 'Let's move on,' and when we encounter an unsolvable problem during shooting and say, 'See you tomorrow.'" "It might be a good movie by our standards, but someone else's might be terrible. But when we got the story we wanted to tell and got it in the format we wanted, we thought, "This is good enough, and I think it's a good movie." He encouraged aspiring directors.

Last Saturday's JEONJU IFF! Heavy Snow, one of this year's hottest movies, met the audience on the JEONJU Lonage stage. Our volunteers were on hand to capture the action! A cinematic interaction that even bad weather couldn't stop☔ Here are two questions and answers that stood out from today's Talk in Spring event.

Q. What inspired you to direct Heavy Snow?
A. Director Yun Suik )Heavy Snow was inspired by nature. There was a time when I was out surfing in the ocean, and it was snowing so hard that I couldn't see. The nostalgia I felt then returned to me, and I started writing the screenplay, and the plot was formed.
Q. What would you tell an audience about viewing points from Heavy Snow?
A. Actor Han Haein ) I would like you to focus on the mise en scène of the work. It's fun to look at sensually. There are moments when someone disappears from your life, whether a breakup or a bereavement. But there's someone who keeps coming back into your mind. I guess you can think of it as a story about that person. I hope you'll join me in that strange dimension.
